Residential Opportunities at Lanchester E.P. School

Residentials

Life at Lanchester EP is never boring and we are thrilled to offer each year group in KS2 an exciting, and different residential. It is up to you if you choose to send your child on one or all of them when the time comes.  We aim to make them all affordable as possible and they can be paid for over time, little and often. If cost is an issue, please contact the Head Teacher, Mrs Jane Davis and she will happily discuss options available. We aim to take all children from all year groups.

Year 3 – 6 Residentials Linked to the Curriuculum

Year 3 – An introduction of being away from home, possibly for the first time for some children, we take the year group (one class at a time) for a one night stay to Birdoswald.  This enhances their knowledge of the Romans which is their topic at that time.  This exciting trip involves a walk along the Roman wall, meeting a Roman Soldier and having a Roman story in a milecastle.

Year 4 – This is another opportunity to stay for one night in Seahouses, after visiting Alnwick Castle and Gardens. Time is also spent on the beach; this is linked to their history work, their work on Harry Potter as well as their topic of Potions.

Year 5 – PGL at Caythorpe Court, Lincolnshire. A 3 night stay at Caythorpe Court where adventure awaits! Fly down the zip-wire, abseil, canoe and dare the night line. This thrill seeking induced adventure residential is action-packed and usually the favourite of all residentials!

Year 6 – Our newest 5-day long Northern Ireland trip. Visit amazing places such as The Giant’s Causeway, Titanic Museum, W5 Science, The Jungle and a visit to the Aqua Park to name but a few of the activities planned on this trip. This is another wonderful experience.

Year 4 - Year 6 Annual Ski Trip

In addition to the above trips that are linked to curriculum areas, we also have an annual Ski-trip available for Years 4 – 6. This is linked to our PE curriculum where many children try out skiing for the first time. This residential is slightly different because parents can also sign up to join us if they wish. An enhanced DBS is required from all adults (school will organise this with you) and it is also an ideal opportunity for adults to try skiing for the first-time too! We fly from Newcastle to the French Alps for a week of wonderful exercise and fun!

Life-long Learning and Character Changing Opportunities for All

As a team here at Lanchester EP, we believe in equality and this also means that every member of staff has the opportunity to be considered to join the children on the residentials. Any member of staff can volunteer for a trip and it is encouraged that they too, go outside of their comfort zones when taking part. We often have to pull names out of a hat for staff who wish to take part!

Staff from KS1, EYFS, the caretaker, kitchen and office staff regularly join the children on one or more of these trips and this further cements the relationships across the school that we pride ourselves on; we really are ‘A Caring Community Where All Can Flourish’.

International Visits with Erasmus+

We have been part of Comenius and Erasmus+ Schemes since 2010, making amazing links all over Europe. We have had partner schools in Turkey, Portugal, Poland, Spain, Hungary, Greece, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Latvia, Lithuania, France, Italy, Finland, Sweden, Romania, Cyprus, Sicily and Denmark.

The projects we have been involved in have included:

  •        Learning Through Traditional Music and Dance
  •        Developing European Unity through understanding literature and traditional stories.
  •        Learning Outdoors, Learning for Life
  •        Active Citizenship and Environmental Awareness through Formal & Non-Formal Education
  •        European Tunes Choir for Peer Bullying
  •        Happy Life and Well-Being through healthy eating, activity and relaxation

International Visits with The Turing Scheme (Dubai, India, Madrid & Montreal)

Schools in England are unable to apply for any further Erasmus+ Projects since Brexit. We also decided that we wanted to further the children’s experiences with visits and partner schools wider than Europe.

Thanks to Turing Funding, in March 2022, we took 16 children to Dubai. During our time there, we visited the mosque where we learned more about the Islamic religions, the Emirati Cultural Centre where we enjoyed a traditional Emirati meal whilst learning more about their culture, we visited our partner school where the children experienced Arabic lessons and we also enjoyed going out and about in Dubai to see some of the famous landmarks including the Burj Kalifa and Atlantis Hotel.

We were lucky enough to be able to take  24 children in February 2023, and will be taking 6 children to Dubai in February 2024 as well.

In January 2023, we took 16 children to Rajkot, India to learn more about their culture, the Hindi religion and also to visit Panchshil School in Rajkot. This was another life-changing trip for both children and staff.  We are fortunate to be able to return to India in February 2024 with another 8 children.

This year, we will also be using our Turing Funding to take 6 children to Madrid, Spain in May 2024, and in June 2024, 6 of our pupils will be travelling to Montreal, Canada.
