The School Council

School Council

Our school council plays a vital role in ensuring that pupil voice is heard, valued, and acted upon across the school community. It provides a structured platform where pupils can share their ideas, concerns, and suggestions to improve school life. Through regular discussions and feedback opportunities, the council empowers students to feel confident that their opinions matter and can lead to meaningful change. This focus on pupil voice helps to create a more inclusive and responsive school environment where everyone feels represented.

Council representatives are chosen through a democratic process, with pupils voting for their peers to take on these important roles. This ensures that representatives are trusted by their classmates and are committed to speaking on their behalf. The voting process also helps pupils understand the importance of fairness, responsibility, and participation in decision-making. Once elected, representatives take their roles seriously, gathering views from their classes and feeding them back to the council.

The school council holds regular meetings to raise issues, discuss ideas, and agree on actions to improve the school. Two key sub-committees focus on playgrounds and playtime, and school meals. These groups explore specific areas in more detail, working closely with others to bring about positive changes. Meetings have been held with kitchen representatives to discuss food choices and dining experiences, as well as with playground stakeholders to improve play opportunities and behaviour at playtimes. These discussions ensure that decisions are well-informed and that actions taken reflect the needs and views of the wider school community.

Representatives have also met with members of the local police to discuss parking issues around school and in the wider community.
