School Support Dog

Woody is the latest member of our team here at Lanchester EP School. Woody underwent 6 months training in school with Mrs Davis before he was fully assessed for his work in school.

Woody accompanies Mrs Davis to work 3 mornings per week – when meetings allow! You might find him out on the school gate at the start of the day, listening to readers or enjoying walks on the school grounds with children. He loves it when they throw his ball for him too!

School dogs have been proven to help develop pupils reading skills, improve behaviour, attendance and academic confidence, as well as increasing pupil understanding of responsibility and develop empathy and nurturing skills.

At Lanchester E.P.  School Woody supports our staff team in bringing all of these benefits to our pupils.  Our school dog has been trained by Lee from School of Dogs. Woody helps to motivate pupils to think and to learn, as most children have a high level of natural interest in, enthusiasm for and enjoyment of animals.

Woody has been on residentials with the children to Birdoswald Roman Wall and Seahouses and he always enjoys joining the children for Flourishing Friday!
