International Learning

Erasmus+ - EU-funded projects
Our school has a long history of international learning. Since 2010, we have participated in Erasmus+ (previously called Comenius) projects, funded by the EU. Since 2021, we have also taken part in The Turing Scheme, funded by the Department for Education.

We are currently participating in two Erasmus+ projects:
  • Happy Life Through Exercise, Healthy Eating and Relaxation with partner schools in Germany, Spain and Hungary. This project is focused on developing children's wellbeing and runs until August 2023. You can find out more about this project here.
  • European Tunes Choir Against Peer Bullying with partner schools in Turkey, Latvia, Greece and Portugal. This project is focused on tackling bullying through music. You can find out more about this project here.
Both of these projects have attracted EU funding, which enables us to take groups of children to visit our partner schools and to work collaboratively with their peers from other countries.

We have previously been the co-ordinator school for a hugely successful project focused on outdoor learning. 'Learning Outdoors, Learning For Life' was a project that ran from 2019 until 2022 with schools from Sweden, Spain, Denmark and Poland. Together, we were able to learn and share ideas about using the outdoors to enhance our learning provision. In our school, this has involved really developing our forest school provision and thinking about how we can ensure that the outdoor learning provision is accessible to everyone. This project was led through pupil voice and children were given an enormous amount of responsibility for the direction we took the project. Turing Scheme - Projects funded by the Department for Education
In addition to our Erasmus+ projects, we are one of only a handful of primary schools in the UK to take part in The Turing Scheme. This is a fund that allows children to travel abroad so that they can experience life in a different country and to develop the role of the UK around the world.

In March 2022, 16 children travelled to Dubai to visit our partner school there: Hartland International School. They worked on a project to explore the role that Islam plays in the daily life of children in the United Arab Emirates.

In January 2023, 16 children travelled to Rajkot in India to work alongside children in our partner school there: Panchshil School, to learn more about children's rights linked to our ongoing work towards becoming a Rights Respecting School. The focus was to explore how children's rights are enacted in a developing country.

In February 2023, 24 children travelled to Dubai to visit our partner schools, Hartland International School and Star International School. They were learning about children's rights and how they are enacted in a rapidly-developing country.

In 2024, we have four more international visits taking place under the Turing Scheme - 8 children will travel to India in February, followed by 6 children who will travel to Dubai in the same month.  In May, 6 children will be travelling to Madrid and finally in June, 6 children will be visiting Montreal.
